Flat Roofing
A roof with a 2/12 pitch or lower (2′ of rise over 12′ length) would be considered a flat roof. A flat roof system has to be able to hold standing water. A membrane system that is glued or molded together to form a solid skin needs to be installed. There are 3 excellent and proven top-of-the-line products that Fichtner Services can install for you.
Duradek – Duradek is a vinyl waterproofing membrane that is designed for walkable roof decks. All of the seams are heat welded together to form one solid sheet that is 100% water proof. It comes with a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty if it is installed by an approved Duradek applicator such as Fichtner Services. The product has 19 colors to choose from.
EPDM (Ethylene Propolene Diene Monomer) – This rubber roof is extremely versatile and can be used on almost every flat roof detail or problem area. Fichtner Services has achieved the status of Red Shield Applicator by Firestone, one of the largest manufacturers of flat roofing materials in the world. The sheet of rubber comes in 10′ or 20′ wide rolls and is glued down in much the same was a bicycle inner tube is patched using contact adhesive. This membrane is expected to last 30 years or more with proper maintenance.
TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) – This product is similar to Duradek but is more economical and comes white, gray and tan, but is not a walkable roof surface. Due to the lighter colors, the membrane is reflective of the sun’s rays and will help keep the structure inside cooler. This membrane’s expected life is 30 years.
